In 1966 Sparkman & Stephens drafted an relatively unknown shipwright in Pietarsaari Finland to be the primary builder for their newest design (#1710.51).   As the intent for this vessel was for racing, the Finns proposed construction via a cutting edge material for a boat this size……..fiberglass.  By 1970, ninety of these models had been delivered, and the Viking ancestors never looked back.

We’ve seen a few of these classics over the years; but Estrella Del Sur certainly understood her lineage & tradition more than most, and took on a substantial refit forty-five years after she was originally commissioned.

It is not uncommon to have some minor issues in high load areas for an older boat that had seen many blue-water miles. Specifically here, the decking at the genoa tracks needed re-coring and re-laminating.  Special attention was paid to re-constructing the integral foam & GRP deck wedge risers along the tracks.   After structural repairs were complete, all surfaces (non-skid & smooth paint, varnish) were prepped/faired/re-faired/re-prepped, and finished in top-coats of Awlgrip and gloss varnish.

She is the utmost classic Swan in the absolute best condition imaginable.
